Hawkeye RedTails Name Micah Destival as Head Men’s Golf Coach

WATERLOO–Hawkeye Community College has named Micah Destival as head coach of the new intercollegiate Hawkeye RedTails Men's Golf program, which begins its first competitive season in fall 2018.

Destival is general manager and head golf professional at Jefferson Community Golf Course in Jefferson. A member of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) since 2014, he is a three-time qualifier for the Iowa Cup (2014-2016). His experience has included wins at numerous Iowa PGA events, including the 2013 Prairie Meadows Pro-Am, 2013 Skip Holton Pro-Am Pro Division, 2014 Pro-Junior Championship, 2015 Foursome Match Play, and 2015 Cobra/Puma East-West Open Division.

"It is my goal to not only have student-athletes perform well on the course, but also have academic success," Destival said. He will take the helm as Hawkeye's golf program transitions from a club team to intercollegiate competition. The club team is coached by Dave Westley.

"Coach Westley has done an excellent job the past few seasons, which should help make the transition from being a club sport much easier," Destival said.

Destival is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University and has a master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa. He currently lives in Dike.
