Ethan Crawford

Director of Athletics and Recreation

Ethan Crawford is in his eighth year with the Hawkeye RedTail Athletic Department.

A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Crawford earned a B.A. in Movement and Exercise Science as well as an M.A. in Health Promotion/Fitness Management. Growing up in a farming community within the Hawkeye Community College service area, Crawford is a graduate of East Buchanan High School; where he was a four sport athlete. He remains active in his home community as well as his family farm.

Crawford began his career in Athletics at Hawkeye in 2015 as the Assistant Coordinator of Intercollegiate Athletics, and was shortly after promoted to Coordinator of Intercollegiate Athletics. In 2017 he became the Associate Director of Athletics for the RedTails. He has helped build the programs from the ground up since coming on board, and has bolstered the department to a total of thirteen athletic programs and over 280 student-athletes in under five years. In December of 2019, he was named the Interim Director of Athletics, and as of July 2020 the recreation department was also brought under his charge. In January of 2021, he was named the permanent Director of Athletics and Recreation at the College. He provides vision, leadership, and direction for the athletics and recreation departments, and has a multitude of responsbilities including compliance, event management, personnel management, public relations, and finances amongst many others.

Prior to Hawkeye, Crawford was heavily involved with the personal fitness department at the University of Northern Iowa where he was a personal trainer and personal fitness assistant for the program for five years. He came to Hawkeye in 2015 for campus recreation, and shortly after made the transition to athletics in an effort to build the newly implemented athletic department for the RedTails.

Crawford resides in Independence, IA with his wife Nicole, and two daughters Charlotte and Laurel.
