Bio

Abby Kopriva is the Head Coach of the Hawkeye RedTail Dance Team. Kopriva has 18 years of dance experience under her belt. She started dancing at 3 years of age and began taking classes at Jeune Attente Dance Company in Dysart, Iowa. Here, Kopriva trained in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop.

Kopriva Attended North Tama High School in Traer, Iowa, where she was a member of the dance team for her entire high school career. She was selected as the dance team captain for her junior and senior year. At the age of 16, Kopriva began teaching ballet, jazz, and hip hop for preschoolers through fourth graders at the National Dance Academy in Cedar Falls.

After graduating, Kopriva returned to her alma mater to coach the North Tama Dance Team from 2014-2017. She created routines for pom, hip hop, and lyrical to perform at the Iowa State Dance Championship and State Solo Championship. Kopriva has also performed various roles in the Nutcracker at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls with the Minnesota Ballet.

Kopriva was offered the assistant coach position at Hawkeye Community College in 2018 for the RedTail Dance Team’s inaugural year. After three seasons under her belt, she is now leading the program as the Head Coach.
