RedTails Host First Esports Tournament, Hi21

WATERLOO–RedTail Athletics hosted the first-ever Hawkeye Invitational Esports tournament, (Hi21), on October 8-9 at the Waterloo Convention Center. 

 

There were three different games played at the tournament: League of Legend, Rocket League, and Overwatch. Participants in the tournament were: Hawkeye Community College, University of Northern Iowa, Columbia College, Northwestern College, Buena Vista University, Waldorf University, Kirkwood College, and Iowa Central Community College. 

 

Day one consisted of qualifying games, with the finals taking place on day two. At the end of the first day the top five teams in League of Legends were Columbia, Kirkwood, Hawkeye, Northwestern, and Buena Vista. The top five for Rocket League were Columbia Silver, Columbia Navy, Hawkeye, UNI Purple, and BVU Navy. The top five for Overwatch were Waldorf, UNI, Hawkeye, Northwestern, and Iowa Central.

 

Day two was the finals and three champions were crowned. The champion for League of Legends was Columbia College, the champion for Rocket League was Columbia Navy, and the champion for Overwatch was Waldorf University.
