RedTail Men’s Golf Takes Second Evangel Invite, Three Women Compete
The Hawkeye RedTails Men's golf teams took to the south to Springfield, Missouri, where they took part in the Evangel Spring Invite. Weather temperatures at Rivercut GC rose to the mid to high 70s on both days, with sunny skies and little wind. The RedTails shot a three-round team score of 948 (+84) to take solo second place in the meet by 13 strokes. Hawkeye was led by sophomore Kaeden Anderson, who shot a three-round total of 221 (+5), achieving runner-up honors. Sophomore Bruno Marti Jimenez placed in the top 15, landing in 12th place, shooting 233 (+17). Head coach Micah Destival had this to say after the meet.
"It was nice to get outside and shake some of the winter rust off," says Destival. "We did a lot of good things to finish runner-up, and all the guys had nice stretches of holes in the three rounds. Kaeden started where he left off in the fall by being at the top of the leaderboard and played solid in all three rounds to finish 2nd."
As for the women, Hawkeye had three women compete in the event: sophomore Libby Larkin and freshmen Ellah Pummel and Natalie Sinnwell. Larkin placed the highest out of the three in 17th place, shooting 202 (+58).
"It was fun to get back outside as the weather was spectacular in Springfield," said coach Destival. "We played pretty well for the first time outside since last fall, and everyone improved from round one to round two, which is excellent to see."
