RedTail Men’s Soccer Starts Season Off on the Right Foot

Waterloo, IA - The Cedar Valley Soccer Complex was the site of the preseason opener for the RedTail Men's Soccer team where they got their season started off on the right foot with a 1-0 victory over the Grand View University Vikings. 

In fact, it was the right foot of Josh Robinson that gave the RedTails an early lead,  just six minutes into the game, that held on to be the winner of a one score game. The RedTails came out firing early and often in this match, creating several quality shots on goal off of great passing, while goalkeeper Brendan Dally was rarely challenged at the other end. But, when the dust settled at halftime, it was the one goal from Robinson that separated the two teams on the scoreboard. 

In the second half, it was more of the same as the RedTails put several more shots on goal forcing some spectacular saves from the Viking's goalkeeper. Grand View adjusted their formation to be more aggressive in attacking the RedTails defense, which created a couple shots; one ending in a great save by goalie William Sarchet. There was some drama late when a shot from a Vikings player ended up in the back of the net that would have served as an equalizer for the match, but it was quickly waved off because the player was offsides. In the end. the RedTail defense stayed strong and didn't concede a goal, leaving the final score 1-0.

After the win, coach Robbie Carroll was even-keeled in his response to the game. 

"A win is a win but we have a long way to go to be ready to compete in the ICCAC," Carroll said. "It's easy to get carried away with our second win, but the coaching staff and players have to remember we play in the most competitive conference in the country and every game will be a battle this year."
