RedTails Fall Short in Close Match Against NIACC

MASON CITY–The RedTails Soccer team hit the road this weekend and traveled to Mason City where they faced a tough NIACC Trojans. The RedTails team lost in closely contested matchup with a score 1-2.

The men's team was undefeated heading into Saturday. The game was physical, as a total of two yellow cards were tallied and two red cards were pulled. RedTail Will Ansah was the most successful in the outing, as he scored the only goal for the team in the second half (65:30). Aggressive play offensively all day allowed the RedTails to put up five shots and they had the NIACC defense on their toes in a game that was decided by a single goal.

"It's hard to quote such an odd game. The best way to describe this game was NIACC was 'up for it' given that their old head coach is now a member of our coaching staff," said head coach Robbie Carroll, referring to assistant coach Leo Driscoll, who joined the RedTail staff this fall.  "We didn't match their hunger for the game. I think we played down to their level, I think this loss needed to happen winning five games on the bounce with such a young squad was good but as a team we weren't prepared for it. I am looking for the lads to make a statement now that we are a force to be reckoned with when conference start."

The RedTails men take action this weekend as they face the University of Northern Iowa Club team at home.
