RedTail’s Men’s Soccer Fights Till Very End with Southeastern

On October 16th, the Hawkeye RedTails took on the Southeastern Blackhawks in a low-scoring affair at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.

In the first half, Southeastern controlled the tempo and ball possession for the majority of the 40 minutes. However, neither team took many shots throughout the first half. Late in the second half, the score deadlocked at zero; Southeastern came through. A late corner kick set up the Blackhawks and the game's only goal. Despite a couple more chances late, the RedTails couldn't get anything to go, and they fell in a hard-fought battle, 1-0. Head coach Chris Rennie talked about the team's performance.

"I'm so proud of the guys today. It was a fantastic performance, and we were so unlucky to come away empty-handed. We could have continued to play the way we were and be content for the tie, but we felt this was a must-win game for us and went for it in the last 10 minutes. We created a couple of excellent chances in the last 10 minutes, but unfortunately, we were unable to convert them, and Southeastern was able to take theirs. If the team played this way every week, we would be sitting in a much stronger position. It has taken a while to get to this place of the right level of performance, and it is bittersweet as we are finally seeing the potential this team has, but we worry that it has come a month too late for us."
