Hawkeye Community College is excited to announce the hiring of Jorge Sierra Galeas as the new Head Men's Soccer Coach. With over a decade of coaching experience, including seven years at the collegiate level, Sierra brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the RedTails soccer program.
Sierra most recently served as the Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach at Southeastern Community College, where he led the men's team to a Region 11 Tournament semifinal appearance and a national ranking of #18 in NJCAA Division II during the 2024 season. His extensive experience in recruiting, player development, and program building makes him an outstanding fit for Hawkeye's mission of fostering excellence in athletics and academics.
"We're excited to have Coach Sierra join the staff here at RedTail Athletics," said Ethan Crawford, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "Jorge demonstrated in a short amount of time that he is a player's coach who emits a type of energy that athletes respond well to. With his experience, and success in the conference, the future is looking bright for the men's soccer program."
Throughout his coaching career, Sierra has demonstrated a commitment to student-athlete development, teamwork, and accountability. At Iowa Wesleyan University, he successfully guided the program through a transition from NCAA Division III to NAIA, increasing enrollment by 120% and implementing a reserve team program that expanded opportunities for student-athletes. Prior to Iowa Wesleyan University, Sierra started his college coaching career at Southeastern Community College as an assistant coach, he was part of the team that won the NJCAA DII National Championship in 2020-2021.
In addition to his coaching credentials, Sierra holds a U.S. Soccer National D Coaching License and various specialized diplomas in sports psychology, technical training, and talent identification. His experience working with both domestic and international student-athletes has helped numerous players advance to the next level of competition.
The RedTails are excited to announce a new era for their soccer programs, officially splitting the men's and women's teams under separate leadership. With this transition, current head coach Chris Rennie will take over as the Head Women's Soccer Coach, bringing his passion and expertise to lead the program to new heights. This move allows both teams to receive dedicated coaching and resources, further strengthening Hawkeye Community College's commitment to student-athlete development and competitive success.
The RedTails will kick off their upcoming season under Sierra's leadership, aiming to compete at the highest level in the NJCAA.
