
Men’s Track and Field Makes Their Mark at First Outdoor Meet
The RedTail Men's Track and Field Team traveled to Dubuque to compete in the Loras College Easter Mid Week Meet on Thursday, April 1.
Blake Osborn and Johannan Frost took home first and second places for the RedTails in the 200-meter dash. Ray Talbert added a third place finish in the 100-meter dash for the RedTails.
The RedTails 400-meter relay team of Frost, Edgar Tapia, Connor Belken, and Ray Talbert broke the school record and qualified for nationals with a time of 3 minutes, 16.63 seconds.
Koby Brackemeyer and Sam Mickelson also broke school records in the 1500-meter run, with times of 4 minutes, 6.92 seconds and 4 minutes, 8.78 seconds respectively.
Dodson Melchiori ran the first ever 10,000-meter race for the RedTails, establishing the school record for a 6-mile race.
RedTail Blake Veenstra held down for the throws crew at the meet, taking home first place finishes in the discus and shotput. Veenstra also added a seventh place finish in the hammer throw.
"I'm very happy for the men to get really good marks this early in the season," says head coach Tyler Mulder. "As the season progresses and the temperatures get warmer we'll be able to run much quicker, so it has me pretty excited for the future!"
Up next, the RedTails travel to Des Moines to compete in the Grandview Invite on Friday, April 9.
