Men's Ted Nelson Classic Results

On Saturday, February 3, 2024, the Men's Track and Field team traveled to Mankato, Minnesota, to compete in the Ted Nelson Classic hosted by Minnesota State University.

The men's team had a fantastic start to the meet in the high jump field. Sophomore Matthew Benedict and freshman Nathan McFarland tied for fourth place behind division two kids. McFarland tied his season-best, and Benedict set his season-best at 6 feet 4 inches. 

RedTails had a large group in the men's 200-meter dash. Freshman Evan Kearney placed fourth (22.91). His teammate Carter Evan finished in 10th (23.29), Liam Carlson finished in 15th (23.72), and Jaxon Weber finished in 18th (23.82). The rest of the RedTails 200 runners finished in the top 32. 

Freshman Brennen Sager placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of (2:04.07). His teammate Jess Cornick finished in 10th (2:09.56), and Austin Langreck finished in 16th (2:17.06).

Freshman Kasey Wirtjes represented the RedTails by qualifying for the finals in the 60-meter hurdle and finishing in sixth place (8.86). 

Sophomore Kaden Miller finished ninth (1:28.49) in the 600-meter run.

In the 400 sophomore, Kenny Cutler finished 10th place (53.71). Freshman Anthoneih Kopsa came in 14th (55.14) in the same race.

Sophomore Aaron Campbell finished in the shot put in 17th (13.17m). In the weight throw, Tino Tamayo finished in 11th (14.98m), and his teammate Brandit Williams finished in 15th (14.13m).

In the 1000-meter run, freshman Kory Sweeney finished in 13th(3:15.89).

Sophomore Travis Brace finished 15th (6.08m), in the long jump, followed by Campbell finished 17th (5.40m).

"It was a tough meet for us with Minnesota Mankato, one of the top teams in division two and also had one of the top junior college teams in Iowa Central, said head coach Scott Roberts. We came into the meet a little bit flat, which is not untypical for this time of the year. We are a couple of weeks from the conference meet, and next week, we will start sharpening things up.
