RedTail Men Take on the SAU Tune-Up

On Saturday, February 10, 2024, the RedTail Men's Track and Field team traveled to Davenport, Iowa, to compete in the SAU Tune-Up hosted by St. Ambrose University.

The men's team had a fantastic showing in a number of their events. The RedTails had three runners in the 60-meter finals. Liam Carlson finished 2nd overall (7.04), Caden Stimmel finished 4th (7.16), and Carter Even in 5th (7.19).

Liam Carlson also lead the RedTails in the 200-meter finishing 5th (23.35), with Jackson Rhomberg close behind in 8th (23.49), and Alec Schneider finishing in the top 20 (24.11).

The RedTails showed up in the 400-meter finishing 6th, 7th, and 8th place overall. Carter Even in 6th (51.90), Sean Knockel in 7th (52.19), and Noah Sheridan in 8th (52.84).

Freshman Anthoneih Kopsa (1:30.50) took home 4th place in the 600-meter.

Jess Cornick led the 800-meter for the RedTails finishing 2nd (2:02.84) and Austin Langreck finished 11th (2:13.57).

Freshman Brennen Sager was our only miler finishing in 6th place (4:42.69).

Three of our Hurdlers made the finals in the 60-meter hurdles. Noah Sheridan finished 5th (9.07), Kenny Cutler finished 6th (9.07), and Kasey Wirtjes was right behind in 7th (9.11).

The RedTails had two top-10 finishers in the High Jump. Nathan McFarland finishing 4th (6-03.50) and Matthew Benedict finishing 6th (6-01.50 ).

In the throws, Adam Smith led the RedTails in the Shot Put finishing 5th (47-08.50), and Brandt Williams tied for 10th (42-03.75). In the men's weight throw, Tino Tamayo finished 11th (45-04.50), followed by Brandt Williams and Beau Brackemeyer in 16th (42-04.25) and 20th (39-11.25).

On the men's side, we had a number of fine performances," said head coach Scott Roberts. "Liam Carlson took 2nd in the 60m dash with his second and 3rd fastest times of the year in the prelim and final. Caden Stimmel took 4th in his first competition of the year with the 2nd fastest time on the team this year. He is returning from a hamstring pull. Carter Even took 5th in the 60m with a personal best AFTER competing in the 400m where he had a personal best and a top 6 finish. Jess Corkick took 2nd in the 800m run. We had 3 finalists in the men's 60m hurdles in Noah Sheridan, 5th AFTER running the open 400m, Kenny Cutler, 6th in a personal best time and Kasey Wirtjes, 7th. Both Nate McFarland, 4th, and Matthew Benedict, 6th in the high jump recorded top 8 finishes. Adam Smith took 5th in the shot put. Hawkeye CC was the only JUCO at the meet against tough NCAA Division III competition. I am proud of the team and excited for next week's Region Championships."
