Male Athlete of the Week-Tino Tamayo

Male Athlete of the Week-Tino Tamayo

RedTail Track and Field student-athlete Tino Tamayo has been named Scheels Male Athlete of the Week for his performance at the NJCAA Indoor Nationals in Gainesville, Florida from March 1st-3rd.

Tino has been an outstanding student-athlete all semester! He has been killing it in the classroom as well as in the throwing ring. He had a major goal this season which was to break the school record in weight and he finally did it! Tino broke the School Record in the weight throw and had a big personal record.

"I am very proud of Tino and how far he has come, not only as an athlete but as a person," said assistant coach Jhawan Horton. "He can do anything he sets his mind on. During the weeks leading up to nationals, I wrote on the board in front of his lifting station the number he needed to get in order for him to break the record. He went to nationals and on his second throw, he threw a huge PR to go and break the school record and etch his name in the books. Couldn't be more proud of him!"

Tamayo is originally from Charles City, IA.
