The Men's Track and Field Team Competes at Drake Relays and Viking Classic

DES MOINES—RedTails Men's Track and Field traveled to Des Moines, where some of the team competed at Drake Relays and the rest at the Vikings Classic.

On April 26-April 27, the 4x200, 4x400, 1600 Sprint Medley and Shuttle Hurdle at Drake Relays at Drake Stadium. The 4x200 of Liam Carlson, Carter Even, Caden Stimmel, and Evan Kearney finished in eight out of 18 teams with a time of 1:28.85. The 4x400 team of Even, Sean Knockel, Kearney, and Kenny Cutler finished 16th in the preliminaries with a time of 3:18.84. The 1600 Sprint Medley of Carlson, Stimmel, Kaden Miller, and Jess Cornick finished in 14th place at 3:33.07. The Shuttle Hurdle, they were running right with the leaders but had someone hit the hurdle, which made the group get disqualified. 

The rest of the RedTails team competed on April 26 at the Viking Classic hosted by Grandview University.

Freshman Brennen Sager competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase and finished first at 10:38.55.

In the high jump, freshman Nathan McFarland finished in second place with a jump at the 6-0 mark, and Jaxon Weber finished in eighth place with a jump at the 4-7 height.

RedTails had a great showing in the 100-meter dash. Freshman Alec Schneider finished in fourth place with a time of 11.80. Stimmel finished in 11th with a time of 12.67.

Freshman Kasey Wirtjes finished in fourth place with a time of 16.30 in the 110-meter hurdles.

Schneider and Weber run in the 200-meter dash. Schneider finished in eighth place with a time of 24.09, and Weber finished in 13th place with 25.69.

Sophomore Austin Langreck finished in seventh place with a time of 55.65 in the 400-meter dash.

RedTails had a great showing in the throwing events. In the Hammer, Brandt Williams finished in second place with a throw of 51.13m, ranking him 10th in the country. Tino Tamayo made a national qualifying throw of 50.98m, ranking him 12th in the country; he finished the meet in third place, and Beau Brackemeyer finished in ninth place with a throw of 43.41m. Williams finished in fourth place with a throw of 41.83m in the discus. In the javelin, Tyler Bartels finished in seventh place with a throw of 32.20m, and Weber finished in eighth place with a throw of 31.16m. In the shot put, Tamayo finished in fourth place with a throw of 14.24m, and Adam Smith finished in sixth with a throw of 13.74m.

Head Coach Roberts commented, "The team competed well this past weekend with the not-ideal conditions; he felt like the athletes that competed at Drake Relays all ran well in the relays, and he was proud of everyone that competed at the meets this past weekend."
