Men's Cross Country Takes 9th at Dan Huston Invite

WAVERLY - Both the Hawkeye Community College men's and women's cross country teams returned to competition on Saturday at the Dan Huston Invite. The men's field consisted of 203 runners for the 8k race, while the women's race had 145 runners in its 6k event.

The all-freshman RedTail men's team competed very well against experienced runners from 13 different teams and continued to improve heading towards upcoming regionals. Packwood, IA native, Malcolm Myers, led the way for the RedTails with a time of 27:18.7. Myers' time earned him a 39th overall finish. Ryan Milliken would cross the finish line next with a time of 27:37.2, to finish 46th. Crossing the line next for the RedTails would be Grant Baker, finishing with a time of 28:55.8 and a 60th place finish. The next three RedTail runners would finish 63rd, 64th, and 65th, as Paden Maschmann (29:06.9), Landon Boomsma (29:08.0), and Isaac Connolly (29:10.5) were right on the heels of each other. Rounding out the RedTails runners was Chandler Dunn, with a 79th place finish and a time of 29:56.9.

The RedTail team finished 9th overall with a team score of 272. Loras College won the meet with a score of 41, and host school, Wartburg, would take a runner-up finish with 45 points.

The men's cross country team will be in action next at St. Ambrose Crow Creek Park meer held in Bettendorf, Saturday October 7, the meet is set to begin at 10:30.
