RedTails Take Second for Men and Women at Simpson Invite

INDIANOLA - The Hawkeye RedTails men's and women's cross country teams were both in action on September 1 at the Bill Buxton - Simpson Invitational. There were some great individual performances that helped both teams take home second place finishes. The men competed in 6K races while the women competed in 4K races.

The women were lead by freshman, Joanna Topham, with a time of 16:50. Topham's time earned her a runner-up finish behind Simpson College senior Sadie Timms. Timms won the women's 4K with a time of 16:14. Mikki Mundus earned a fourth place finish with a time of 17:15 while Shae Dahlstrom also placed in the top 10 with a time of 17:48 and an eight place finish. Rounding out the top five for the women were Atlanta Groeneveld (18:53) and Autumn Weekley (20:06) helping the RedTails earn 45 points for a second place finish. Simpson College won the event, earning 25 total team points.

The men's cross country team also had three top 10 finishers to help pace them to their second place finish as a team. The RedTails top runner was freshman Dalton Gosch with a time of 20:03 earning him third place overall. On his heels was freshman Peter Torkelson with a time of 20:06 and a fourth place finish. Rounding out the top five for the RedTails was Ryan Millikin (20:22, 10th),  Paden Maschmann (20:41, 11th), and Malcolm Myers (20:43, 12th). The RedTails earned 40 points for a second place finish behind Simpson College's 21 point first place finish.

Both teams will be in action again Saturday, September 9th at the Les Duke Grinnell Invitational.
