BETTENDORF – The Hawkeye RedTail men's cross country team took first place at the 2018 Region XI Time Trials held Saturday, August 25, at Crow Creek Park.

The RedTails had five runners place in the top 15, led by sophomore David Thompson, who took fourth overall with a time of 17:24.

"David Thompson has worked hard all summer so it was nice to see that pay off with a fourth-place finish," said head coach Tyler Mulder. "Every single guy had a nice kick to overtake some other competitors, something we've been working hard on for the first three weeks of practice."

Sophomore Peter Torkleson finished close behind Thompson, taking sixth overall in 17:34, followed by Landon Boomsma (10th, 17:46), Jonny Smith (12th, 17:54), and Payton Bahl (14th, 18:07).

"We had a strong pack for the majority of the race," Mulder said. "As our guys get more fit, we'll have a tighter pack, and the top five could change frequently, showing our depth and strength as a team."

The RedTails were followed by Iowa Central in second (55 points), with NIACC (72) rounding out the top three. The event was hosted by Scott Community College.

Up Next: The RedTails head to Wartburg College for the John Kurtt Opener on Friday, August 31. The women are set to run at 5:30pm, followed by the men at 6:00pm.
