RedTail Cross Country Kicks off Season in Cedar Rapids

Both men's and women's cross country started their season on the road at the Corridor XC Clash on Friday, September 1. 

For the men, Freshman Jess Cornick impressively finished under 17 minutes in his first collegiate 5K. Cornick placed 30th out of 95 men. Kory Sweeney ran his fastest opener with a time of 19:30.4 which placed him 79th. 

The women also had a successful day, with Maddie Tiescotter running 22:20.7, setting a new personal best and placing 31st out of 71 women. Freshman Anna Dietzenbach ran in the 22s for her first collegiate 5K with a time of 22:34.9 and placing 35th. 

Head coach Scott Roberts had some positive words to say after the first meet. 

"The men and women ran really well today. I was impressed with Jess Cornick going under seventeen minutes in his first collegiate 5K and Kory Sweeney running his fastest opener," he said. "Maddie Tiescotter had a personal best and Anna Dietzenbach ran in the 22s for her first collegiate 5K, it was a successful opener and now we need to keep the momentum going."

The RedTails next competition will come September 9 in Decorah for the Luther College Invite.
