RedTail Cross Country Competes in NJCAA National Championship

The RedTails traveled to Huntsville, Alabama on November 10-12 for the NJCAA National Championship.

The Men's team placed 30th overall. The RedTails were led by freshmen Jess Cornick who placed 114th in a time of 28:16.0 in an incredibly competitive field. Cornick was followed by freshman Brennen Sager, who smashed his lifetime best with a new time of 28:44.6 which placed him 130th. Freshman Braden Nystrom was the third runner placing 185th with a near personal best time of 31:12.9. Sophomore Kory Sweeney finished in 190th place with a time of 31:32.2. Rounding out the field was sophomore Austin Langreck in a new personal best time of 33:35.9.

Assistant coach Hunter Lavallee had some positive words after the weekend.

"The Men had a solid close to the season at the National Championship," he said. "These men learned a lot about themselves through this cross country season; battling back from injuries and mental blocks throughout the season. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this group of men have gotten to a new level. The true cross country men (Cornick, Sweeney, Nystrom) were joined by a few middle distance runners (Langreck, Meyer, Sager) who trained all fall to be able to contribute to the team effort. From the coaching perspective, there has been a clear shift in motivation in both groups since joining up for competition. 'Iron sharpens Iron' is what they say, and it couldn't be truer within this group. Well done to the RedTail Men!"

The RedTails had a successful fall season and are continuing their hard work in the off-season.
