RedTails Take 3rd at Home Sports Shooting Meet

CEDAR FALLS - The Hawkeye Sports Shooting team hosted the Hawkeye RedTails Invitational on April 14th at the Cedar Falls Gun Club.

It was a day that mother nature decided to throw almost everything she had at. With wind gusts of up to 45 mph, the RedTails faced a tough task shooting first in the day. As the other teams arrived the winds began to lighten and the rain, sleet, snow, and even some bouts of small hail decided to move in. All in all, it was a day that most sports shooters will remember as the worst conditions they have encountered so far in their shooting careers. The RedTails would earn a 3rd place finish in the team standings after hitting 416 total birds. Southeastern CC Sports Shooting would take the crown at the Invitational with a score of 477.

Headlining the performances on the men's side was Jordan Lentz after he put together an impressive showing of 94 in very unpredictable conditions. Lentz's score earned him a 5th place finish for Collegiate Trap. Ross Wolken (16), Jacob Kaisand (18), Zackary Abbas (21), Max Gardner (23), and Spencer Shonka (24) also shot well in a field of talented shooters.

On the women's side, 4 RedTails earned top 10 finishes as the group continues to improve. Emily Klein continued her early season success as she would tally 83 birds and take home a 4th place finish overall. Finishing right behind Klein was fellow RedTail Courtney Prochaska with a score of 75 to finish 5th. Sydney North (7) and Kennady Nie (8) round out the top 10 finishers for the RedTails on an tough day of competition.
