RedTails beat Kirkwood in Sports Shooting Competition
The RedTails Sports Shooting team won their competition against Kirkwood Community College on Saturday, October 12, at the Otter Creek Sportsman's Club.
"We took a road trip to one of the premier trapshooting facilities within Iowa this past weekend," said head coach Troy Emley.
The RedTails won with a total of 492 targets compared to the Eagles who hit 461 targets.
Brenna Leitner led the Hawkeye RedTails women with 99 targets, setting a new Female School Record. Following Leitner was Lydia Covert with 93 targets and in third place was Gabby Wright with 88 targets.
Chase Bindl did not disappoint; continuing his perfect 100 straight streak; going back-to-back-to-back adding his third 100 straight in the last two weeks to earn first place. Colton Crooks edged out Micaiah Groothuis in a shoot-off because each shot a pair of 98 targets. Colton shot 25 straight in the shoot-off to earn second place and Micaiah shot 23 targets, earning 3rd place in the men's division.
"We did really well today, 14 of our team members hit 91 targets and above. This competition will help us understand the potential we have as a team; I know we have not shot our best round of trap, yet," voiced Coach Emley.
The RedTails Sports Shooting is back in action at the Clay Target Craziness on October 14 at home against Northwest Iowa Thunder
