
RedTail Sports Shooting Competes Iowa Junior College Clay Target Championships
The Hawkeye RedTail Sports Shooting team traveled to New Pioneer Clay Target Center in Waukee, IA to participate in the ICCAC Conference Championships (all ICCAC conference teams are eligible) and the Iowa SCTP Junior College Clay Target Championships (all Iowa SCTP Junior College Collegiate Teams are eligible) which are concurrent to each other.
The Iowa Junior College Clay Target Skeet Championship was decided on Sunday. Hawkeye RedTails Skeet team had a program best finish, earning an ICCAC Skeet Championship. Colton Crooks led the way with a personal best and school record 100 Straight targets. Your Hawkeye RedTails Skeet Championship team included: Chase Bindl, Elliott Brincks, Landan Carson, Mason Goche, and also included in this squad is Abbie Hill; Hawkeye RedTails had three participants (Landan, Mason, and Abbie) tie with 95 targets to make our team score.
"I am really proud of Colton's performance; he has been seeking his 100 Straight in Skeet since he joined us. He got'r done!", voiced coach Emley.
The Sporting Clays Championship was decided on Saturday. Hawkeye RedTails Sporting Clays team had a program best Runner-up finish; which included a new ICCAC Conference Championship record team performance, 262 targets, taking our top 3 shooters: Chase Bindl led all scores with 94 targets, setting a new school record for the Hawkeye RedTails and the Championships. Colton Crooks, and Cole Cross also made the three-person squad for team score.
"It is fun to watch how Chase thinks and is able to break targets, on the sporting clays course," voiced coach Emley.
The Sporting Championship was decided on Sunday. The RedTails set a new Iowa Junior College Clay Target Championship school record enroute to their third Place finish. Chase Bindl once again led the Hawkeye Redtail team with 47 targets, setting a new school record. Colton Crooks, Cole Cross, and Cole Slabaugh finished out the three-person squad for team score.
"For many of our team this is their first experience with Super Sporting; we did really well," coach Troy Emley said.
The Trap-Singles Championship was decided on Saturday by a team shoot-off between the RedTails and Iowa Western Reivers for the Championship, as the sun was setting on the day. Hawkeye RedTails Sports Shooting was unable to defend their back-to-back Trap-Singles Championships. Elliott Brincks led the team with a 100 Straight; "It was awesome to see Elliott break his 100 Straight!", said Coach Emley. Completing the team score is: Lucas Kentopp, Cole Cross, Carter Burkhardt, Mason Goche, and also joining the five person squad, because he was tied with three others squad mates, Cole Slabaugh. "Having Back-to-Back-to-Back Trap-Singles would have been special, in the state of Iowa. Our shooters fought with everything we had, just came up short.", voiced Coach Emley. Hawkeye RedTails set a new school record with a team score of 494 targets early in the day; Iowa Western just reached up and tied the Hawkeye RedTails later in the day.
"We have a really deep team of very good shooters! I am very proud of them!" voiced coach Emley.
The Hawkeye RedTails will rest and focus on their in the classroom successes during this Winter. They are looking forward to the ACUI/SCTP College Nationals in San Antonio, Texas, at the National Shooting Complex, on March 16–22, 2025.
