RedTail Softball Drops Two At Spring Games

The Hawkeye RedTail Softball Team played two more games in the Spring Games Tournament in Clermont, Florida. The RedTails took two tough losses on the day, losing game one to Lake Michigan College 5-13 in six innings, and losing game two to Northwestern St. Paul 0-8 in six innings.

 

Game 1: 5 (HCC), 13 (Lake Michigan College)

Lake Michigan started the game off by scoring three runs in the top of the first. This came from a RedTail error and three singles. Three RedTail errors and a homerun gave the RedHawks three more runs in the top of the second to go ahead 7-0. They continued their run in the top of the third, adding three more from five singles and a walk.

Down 10-0, the RedTails got on the board in the bottom of the third. Harley Gaudet reached first by a hit by pitch. She then stole second and scored shortly after from a single by Caydance Sharp.

The RedTails tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Dharma Woodruff hit a double and advanced to third off the bat of Courtney Hemsley. Sidney Schafer then stepped up and hit a single to score Woodruff and advance Hemsley to third. Gaudet then collected her second hit of the day, hitting a hard double off the fence to score Schafer. The RedTails were now trailing 10-4.

Lake Michigan responded by scoring two more runs in the top of the fifth.

Now down 12-4, the RedTails needed one run to keep the game alive. The bottom of the fifth saw some fight from Hawkeye as they scored one more run. Lizzy Hamand hit a double and scored from a double from Woodruff. Unfortunately, the RedTails couldn't keep the RedHawks from scoring as they quickly made the score 13-5 in the top of the sixth. Unable to answer, the RedTails ended the game early in the sixth inning.

The RedTails were lead at the plate by Woodruff and Schafer, both going 2-3 with one RBI each and one run scored each. Schafer took the loss on the mound giving up five hits, seven runs, two earned.

 

Game 2: 0 (HCC), 8 (Northwestern St. Paul)

The Eagles got their bats going in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs on two walks, a RedTail error, and a double.

Kylie Collins started the top of the second with a single, but the RedTails were unable to capitalize on the base runner.

The bottom of the third saw a few more runs for the Eagles. They scored on two singles, a sacrifice fly, and a RedTail error.

Down 5-0, Woodruff drew a walk, but the Eagles quickly ended the threat. In the bottom of the fourth, Northwestern scored two more, taking a 7-0.

Allison Beenken got a one out single in the top of the fifth, and Gaudet came in to run. Kisha Reed got a hit, but a base running error on the RedTails ended the threat.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles hit a solo shot homerun to end the game in six innings.

Reed, Hubert, Collins, and Beenken each had a hit for the game. Madisen Theel took the loss on the mound, giving up eight hits, eight runs, four earned, four walks, and one strikeouts.

 

The RedTails move to 3-9 on the season. They are back in action for their last two games at The Spring Games on March 16th at 2:45 PM EST and 5:15 PM EST at Legends Way in Clermont, FL.
