RedTails Lose Two

The RedTail Softball Team hosted the Iowa Central Community College Tritons at home on April 13th. The RedTails lost both conference games, losing game one 20-6 and game two 37-5.

 

Game 1: 6 (HCC), 20 (ICCC)

The Tritons had hot bats going into the game scoring 17 runs in the first inning.
Hawkeye responded in the first scoring off a Kylie Collins double and Lizzy Hamand homerun.

The Tritons added one more run in the second to go up 18-2.

The RedTails responded again and scored two more runs. Sidney Schafer and Courtney Hemsley had back to back walks, and with two outs, Collins walked to load the bases. Caydance Sharp then hit a single to score Schafer and Hemsley.

Iowa Central added two more runs in the top of the fifth. 

Hawkeye scored in the bottom of the fifth with Savannah Ringheden hitting a solo homerun to put the score at 20-5. Allison Beenken then drew a walk. Sharp came in to run for her and scored on a sacrifice fly from Hamand. The RedTails were unable to score any more giving the Tritons the 20-6 win.

At the plate, Collins was 1-1 with one walk and one run scored. Sharp was 1-2 with two runs batted in and one run scored. Hamand and Ringheden both homered.

 

Game 2: 5 (HCC), 37 (ICCC)

Iowa Central went ahead early in the game and Hawkeye couldn't bounce back from the deficit.

The RedTails scored their first runs in the bottom of the fourth when Sharp and Hamand hit back to back homeruns. Chardonnay Hubert followed up shortly after with a solo homerun herself. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Lauren Mercer started a two out rally with a single to the right side. Sharp then followed with a single to advance Mercer to second. Hamand then forced a Triton error to score both Mercer and Sharp.

Sharp led at the plate, going 2-3 with one run batted in and two runs scored. Hubert was 1-2 with one run scored and one run batted in. 

 

The RedTails move to 5-25 on the year and 1-13 in conference play. The RedTails host another double header on April 14th against Ellsworth Community College. Game time is set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
