RedTails Fall to Panthers

The RedTail Softball Team hosted the Ellsworth Community College Panthers at home on April 14th. The RedTails lost both conference games, losing game one 12-2 and game two 14-0.

Game 1: 2 (HCC), 12 (ECC)

Ellsworth scored first in the top of the first inning scoring two runs on a single and a homerun. They added three more runs in the top of the second inning scoring on three straight Panther hits. 

The RedTails responded in the second inning scoring two runs. Dailyn Marine started a two out rally with a single. Savannah Ringheden then forced a Panther error to advance Marine to second. Caydance Sharp then walked to load the bases. Lizzy Hamand then singled to score the two runs for the RedTails, making the score 5-2 in favor of the Panthers.

A big fourth inning resulted in seven more Panther runs, resulting in a 12-2 loss in five innings for Hawkeye.

Hamand led at the plate going 1-3 with two runs batted in. Sidney Schafer took the loss on the mound, going 4.1 innings, giving up 11 hits, seven earned runs, two walks, and two strikeouts. Courtney Hemsley pitched 0.2 innings giving up two hits.

Game 2: 0 (HCC), 14 (ECC)

Ellsworth started with a three run first inning to go up 3-0 early. They continued to score two more runs in the top of the second, and the Panthers had a big fourth inning, going up 14-0. The game ended in five innings. 

The RedTails were unable to get their bats going during the game. The only base runners for the RedTails came from three walks from Sharp, Hamand, and Ringheden. Woodruff took the loss on the mound, going 3.1 innings, giving up six hits, eight earned runs, three walks, and one strikeout. Hemsley pitched 0.1 innings giving up two hits, and one earned runs. Schafer pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and one strikeout.

The RedTails move to 5-27 on the year and 1-15 in conference play. The RedTails play on the road at Kirkwood Community College on Wednesday, April 17th. Game time is set for 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
