#7 Eagles Power Past RedTails

The RedTail Softball Team traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face conference foe Kirkwood Community College. The RedTails dropped both games, losing game one 19-2 and losing game two 20-4. 

 

Game 1: 19 (KCC), 2 (HCC)

Kirkwood scored their first runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning, going up 2-0. They continued their hot hitting going into the second inning, tacking on five more runs, and added four more runs in the bottom of the third. 

The RedTails got on the board when Caydance Sharp doubled and was hit in off of a Lizzy Hamand homerun.

Kirkwood took control and scored their last runs in the bottom of the fourth, giving them the 19-2 lead. The RedTails were unable to score in the fifth inning, ending the game early.

At the plate, Hamand led Hawkeye going 1-2 with a homerun, two runs batted in, and a run scored. Sharp and Sidney Schafer each had a hit.

 

Game 2: 20 (KCC), 4 (HCC)

The RedTails struck first in game two, scoring their four runs of the game early. Savannah Ringheden lead off the inning by forcing an Eagle error. Sharp then hit a single to put runners on first and second. With two outs, Courtney Hemsley drew a walk to load the bases. Schafer followed with a walk to score Ringheden. Dailyn Marine was then hit by a pitch to score Sharp. Allison Beenken walked to score Hemsley. Harley Gaudet then stepped up and hit a single up the middle to score Schafer.

Kirkwood quickly tied up the score 4-4 after the first inning.

A big third inning gave Kirkwood a large lead that Hawkeye couldn't bounce back from. The RedTails lost the game 20-4 in five innings.

At the plate, Gaudet and Marine led the RedTails each going 1-2 with one run batted in. Sharp and Hubert each had a hit. 

 

The RedTails move to 5-29 on the season and 1-17 in conference. Hawkeye will host their last home games of the year this Saturday, April 17th and Sunday, April 18th.
