RedTails Begin Post Season Play

The RedTail Softball Team opened up post season play on Friday, April 3rd. The RedTails entered the tournament the seven seed and faced the two seed, Des Moines Area Community College, losing the first-round game 8-0 in five innings.

The RedTails played tough defense and had solid pitching from Sidney Schafer the first two innings. Going into the bottom of the third, the score was tied 0-0. DMACC scored two runs in the inning from a single, double, and RedTail error. They tacked on more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring from six singles. The Bears were then up 6-0 going into the fifth inning.

The RedTails were unable to get any momentum going at the plate, and in the bottom of the fifth, the Bears took the run rule win by scoring on a single and homerun.

Hawkeye was shut out at the plate, not being able to get a runner on base during the game. Schafer took the loss on the mound, going 4.1 innings, giving up ten hits, six earned runs, and one strikeout.

The RedTails move to 7-38 on the year. Hawkeye will be back in Boone, Iowa, to face Iowa Lakes Community College in the loser's bracket on Saturday, May 4th. Game time is set for 12:00 PM. If the RedTails win, they will face the loser of the DMACC vs. NIACC game at 4:00 PM.
