RedTail Bowling Competes at Golden Eagle Invite

The RedTails traveled to Rockford, Illinois, for the Golden Eagle Invitational, hosted by fellow NJCAA school, Rock Valley Community College. On the women's side, there were a few nerves, some fun, and a lot of learning. The atmosphere was light and positive, making the weekend very easy going, which was a great step in the right direction. Players who stood out the most were sophomore Samie Camilo, who was the highest finisher for the RedTail women, who averaged 162.8 across five games to tie for 39th. Freshman Kiyrah Karstens finished in 46th, averaging 152.6. Finishing in 58th place was freshman Callie Smedley, averaging 141.8. There were a total of 115 scored players who competed this weekend.

For the RedTail men, assistant coach Joe Squires stated that he was impressed with how well the men worked together and had a great positive energy about them. They had their highs and lows, but everyone's attitudes were upbeat and never gave up fighting. The stand outs for the men were sophomore Ryder Fleming, who has really been coming into his own on the lanes kicking off this season with a 19th place finish, averaging 218 for his five games. Freshman Chris Fordyce had a big 278 game, his last game to take him to 57th place with a 201 average.

"Overall, we saw a lot of growth and a hunger to get better," said head coach Roger Taylor "During this tournament we were able to see a few things that we can't necessarily see during practice and we will make the needed adjustments to be prepared for our next competition coming up in Cedar Rapids, October 12-13 for our first Mid Iowa Bowling Conference Tournament. With this group of young student-athletes, we foresee a lot of great things moving forward and this weekend assured us of that. We can't wait to see how far this team can go."
