RedTails lose to Iowa Lakes in penalty kick after tied game 1-1

The RedTails Women's Soccer team tied against Iowa Lakes Community College 1-1 but lost due to penalty kicks on Sunday, November 5, in regional finals.

The RedTails played an intense game. Iowa Lakes was the first to score. Morgan Aickey scored the only goal for the RedTails tying the game.Throughout the game neither team was able to score again with the RedTails goalie, Kim Bircher, earning four saves throughout the match. However, after two overtimes the result of the match was decided by penalty kicks. Iowa Lakes was able to score one of them and was able to win the regional finals

Head Coach Christopher Rennie had some thoughts on the game and the season:

"It's been an unbelievable season, I could not be more proud of these players, they have been amazing every step of the way. Tonight they showed why they deserved their place in the regional final and pushed the opposition to the final kick of the game. We showed fantastic character to come from 1-0 down, the first time that has happened in 13 games. All of the stats and records that have been broken this year will be things that I hope the players will remember but beyond that I hope they look back on this experience and the relationships they built with great memories. It has been a season to remember for Redtail's Women's soccer, this team has now created a new standard and benchmark for all future teams to aim towards. Exciting times ahead !!!"

The RedTails have put in a bid to hopefully compete in nationals.
