
Women's Track and Field Kicks Off Inaugural Season at UNI Open
CEDAR FALLS - The RedTail Men's and Women's Track & Field teams took to the UNI-Dome to kick off their inaugural season as part of the 2018 Panther Open.
Joanna Topham would headline the women's team as she took home the 800M title in a time of 2:32.00. Topham also took home a 5th place in the Women 1 Mile run, finishing in a time of 5:22.62. Her time was good enough to qualify her for the NJCAA Nationals and is currently the best NJCAA time in the country.
In the 60M hurdles, it was Megan Hudson running a time of 9.39 in the finals to finish in 3rd place for the event. Hudson also finished in 7th place in the 200M dash with a time of 27.31 in the finals.
The RedTails qualified four of the eight sprinters in the 60M dash finals as Jurane Lizer, Miara Oliver, Morgan Thompson, and Tess Nygren finished 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th respectively.
The 4X400M relay team consisting of Hannah Johnson, Ashley Stogdill, Jurane Lizer, and anchor Atlanta Groeneveld finished in 4th place with a time of 4:42.03. Groeneveld also competed in the 600M run, finishing in 6th place for the RedTails with a time of 1:51.10.
On the field events side, it was Haile Cook putting on a strong performance. She finished 7th place in the women's weight throw with a best of 42-04.75 in the finals, and also placed 4th in the women's shot put finals with a throw of 33-09.25.
Zarreeel Knox and Theresa Hatch jumped 15-03.50 and 15-00.75 respectively to finish 7th and 8th in the women's long jump finals. In the women's triple jump, Knox took flight for a mark of 33-05.75 in the finals to finish 4th.

The RedTails Track & Field teams will next compete at the Chelsey M. Henkenius Open at Wartburg College on January 20th. Field competitions are set to begin at 10:00 AM, and running events slated to start at noon.
