Women's Track Earns 5th Place at Jack Jennet Open
CEDAR FALLS - The Hawkeye Community College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams continued their impressive inaugural seasons by putting on several strong performances at the Jack Jennett Open inside the UNI-Dome. The women's team collected 38 team points throughout the meet to finish 5th overall out of the 11 teams.
Highlighting the field events for the RedTails was freshman Haile Cook who competed in both the shot put and the weight throw Friday afternoon. Cook took home 10th in the shot put after completing a throw of 36-09.75, and 8th in the weight throw with a toss of 46-07.25. On the track, it was both Megan Hudson and Tess Nygren qualifying for the finals in the 60 Meter Hurdles. Hudson finished 4th with a time of 9.48 and Nygren finished right behind her to take 5th with a final time of 10.31.
Dike-New Hartford native Jurane Lizer ran a strong time of 1:04.84 in the 400 Meter Dash, finishing 7th overall for the RedTails. The RedTails also had a strong showing in the 800 Meter Run as both Mikki Mundus (6th) and Atlanta Groeneveld (7th) placed and earned team points. Joanna Topham earned a 6th place finish after a time of 11:05.35 in an intense 3000 Meter Run that brought the fans to life watching inside the Dome.
The Women's 4x400 Meter Relay had plenty of drama in the last event of the meet as it was a tight race down the homestretch for first. The RedTail relay team of Hannah Johnson, Lizer, Groeneveld, and anchor Mundus would finish only .69 seconds behind the relay team from Simpson College to finish as runner-ups in the event.
