Women’s Track and Field Debut and Set Records at Mel Tjeerdsma Classic
The RedTail Women's Track and Field team made their season debut by setting new records at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic in Maryville, MO on Saturday, Jan. 16.
"The women's team came excited and ready to compete," said head coach Tyler Mulder. "It was exciting for most of the athletes, with a lot of the younger athletes not racing a meet since their junior year."
Kaylee Leicht placed fourth in the 600-yard with her time of 1:34, setting the school record. Kylee Neighbors kept it rolling for the RedTails, snagging a fifth place finish with a jump of 5-1. Alyssa Striegel landed the team a fifth place finish in the shotput with a mark of 11.42. Striegel now sits at #2 all time on the record board.
"I'm overall pleased with where each event group is at and how well everyone handled their composure," said coach Mulder. "We'll use this meet and carry the momentum into next week at UNI!"
Next up, the RedTail women will compete at the Jack Jennett Invite at the UNI Dome on Thursday, Jan. 21.
