RedTails Flourish in Historic Volleyball Home Opener

WATERLOO – The Hawkeye RedTail volleyball team, facing its first game in program history, marked the occassion the only way it knew how – with an overwhelming victory.

The RedTails controlled the net and delivered a historic win in dominating fashion over visiting John Wood Community College on Wednesday, 25-9, 26-16 and 25-12.

Brooke Dreesman, a middle hitter for the RedTails, expressed her excitement.

"We have been having three practices a day and working really hard towards this moment," she said. "As teammates, we are constantly communicating and helping each other grow."

Hours of practice and training paid dividends as fans jammed the gymnasium in support of their newest sports team.

"Given that this is the first year of the program there are no set leaders," said Megan Hudson, who led the RedTails with nine kills. "We've been focusing on building team chemistry and the basic fundamentals of the game."

Up Next: The RedTails head to Beatrice, Neb., to compete in the Southeast Community College Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Their next home match is September 5 against DMACC.
