No. 19 RedTails Knock Off No. 5 DMACC

WATERLOO–Just hours after receiving its first top-20 ranking in program history, the RedTail Volleyball team stunned the No. 5 DMACC Bears with an exciting 3-1 upset in the first home conference matchup Wednesday night.

The No. 19 RedTails controlled the offensive tempo and played stingy defense, winning the first two sets (25-19, 25-17). In the third period, the RedTails fell behind early with a six-point defect, but rallied late to even the score before dropping the set 25-23.

The RedTails continued to control the net in the fourth and final set,  as the RedTails won 25-18.

Megan Hudson, ICCAC player of the week, tallied a total 27 kills. The RedTails offensive success was widespread, with 13 kills from Paige Eiffler and 12 kills from Brooke Dreesman.

"Through our preparation we knew we were going to win," said outside hitter Ashley Cary, who had seven kills and three digs on the night.

Hudson and Haylee Keune let an outstanding defensive performance, with 50 digs between them. Alexis Wroe was among several RedTails that had great defensive play, accounting for 19 digs. 

"This will only make us a better team," Wroe said. "This goes to show that we can beat anyone. We are expected to be the underdog because we are a first-year programalthough that motives us to be a better team."
