Women's Cross Country Places 11th at Dan Huston

WAVERLY - Both the Hawkeye Community College men's and women's cross country teams returned to competition on Saturday at the Dan Huston Invite hosted by Wartburg College. The men's field consisted of 203 runners for the 8k race, while the women's race had 145 runners in its 6k event.

The women's team would finish with an 11th place finish and a combined total of 286 team points. Freshman Joanna Topham would again lead the RedTails, as she finished with a 21st place finish and a time of 24:06.8. Parkersburg native, Atlanta Groeneveld, would finish second for the RedTails running a time of 25:59.4. Crossing the finish line next would be freshman Shea Dahlstrom with a race time of 26:21.6. Running a time of 28:26.8, would be sophomore Mikki Mundus, as she finished 4th for the women's team. Autumn Weekley (29:34.1), Hannah Johnson (32:14.0), and Divine Washington (32:22.7) rounded out the RedTail runners on a great fall day for the Dan Huston Invite.

Northern Iowa won the women's event with a team score of 40 and Wartburg College took a runner-up finish with 45 team points.

The women's cross country team will be in action next at the St. Ambrose Crow Creek Park Meet held in Bettendorf, Saturday October 7, the meet is set to begin at 10:30.
