Topham Takes First At Trent Smith Invitational

MASON CITY - Joanna Topham took first place in the women's division as the Hawkeye Community College women's cross country team had a very strong performance at the NIACC Trent Smith Invitational.

Running a personal record, and a RedTail school record of 19:20 (5k), Joanna Topham was the first runner to cross the finish line Friday in Mason City. "Joanna has really come out of her shell as of late, you can really tell she put in some serious off season miles on her own, and as a result she had a 39 second PR (personal record)," said Head Coach Micah Ruroden. Ruroden also added that he thought the women did a terrific job competing on a very fast course, and was proud of the women runners as they are becoming closer to where they need to be competitive in our region. Shea Dahlstrom finished second for the RedTails with a 13th place finish and a personal record of her own at 21:10. Hot on the heels of Dahlstrom was Mikki Mundus, finishing 15th, and running a PR of 21:16. Autumn Weekley (23:30), Hannah Johnson (26:18), and Divine Washington (26:35) also had personal records and ran very well.

The RedTail men and women return to action October 29 at the NJCAA Region XI meet in Fort Dodge. The national meet is set for November 11, also in Fort Dodge.
