RedTails Men’s Golf Takes Runner-Up at Oakwood C.C., Steege Earns First Collegiate Individual Win

Talk about a hot day. The Hawkeye RedTails men's golf team took on Oakwood C.C. with the temps is the upper 90's, heat index around 110° and very little wind, the conditions would test the mental toughness of all the golfers participating.

Hawkeye as a team shot two 18-hole rounds of 305 and 299 to take the runner up trophy back home to Waterloo. Sophomore Will Steege shot a career low -4 (71-67) to win the individual medalist by six strokes. Head coach Micah Destival shared his thoughts on his teams finish "Bill and I were very impressed with our play today as we played 36 holes on a tough golf course with the heat index well above 100. Will Steege turned it on late in the first round and continued the hot streak on the second 18 to shoot 72-67 and a five shot win. We couldn't be happier for Will and nice to see his hard work pay off.  The team also played good considering the heat and beat a lot of good teams to finish runner-up."

The RedTails will travel to Oskaloosa on Monday and Tuesday, September 9-10.
