RedTail Men and Women Golfers Compete in Statesmen Invite in Oskaloosa

The RedTail golf teams traveled to Oskaloosa, Monday and Tuesday to compete in the William Penn Statesmen Invite held at Edmundson G.C. Only two ladies from the women's team joined the trip. Warm, dry weather highlighted the tournament. The men's side brought two teams of five golfers. The Orange team included: Kaeden Anderson, Will Steege, Bruno Marti Jimenez, Tristen Sorgenfry and Colton Sullivan. The Blue team included: Oliver Thompson, Graham Bremner, Mauricio Jimenez, Jace Pruisner and Daniel Wiese. They also brought two individuals Carson Fox and Kaden Kopsa. The ladies were represented by Natalie Sinnwell and Maggie Ward.
On the men's side, B. Jimenez earned All-Tournament honors, placing fifth and shooting a two-day total of 146 (71-75). The Orange team took the overall victory after a six-hole playoff defeating Lincoln University. Coach Destival shared his thoughts on the team's victory.
"Fun to repeat as team champions in Oskaloosa. We were very encouraged by everyone's second round scores given the tougher conditions from day one. Bruno showed that you don't have to hit the ball perfect to still win a playoff when you have a great short game. Looking forward to the Battle of Waterloo this weekend to continue our improved play."
For the women, Sinnwell and Ward played in the two-day event. Sinnwell finished with a two-day total of 204 (103-101) to finish in 35th place. Ward would WD after day one shooting a 123. Coach Destival shared his thoughts on the girls' rounds.
"The women continue to improve their games each tournament. Natalie shot 103 in the first round and then improved upon it in round 2. Maggie played a good 2nd nine holes in the first round. Looking forward to NIACC next week in Mason City."
Coming up for the men, they will compete in the Battle of Waterloo on Friday and Saturday, Sep. 14-15 at Irv Warren G.C. and South Hills G.C. The women will also compete in the Battle of Waterloo.
