RedTails Win Home Tourney at Fox Ridge

The Hawkeye RedTails hosted the RedTail Fall Classic on Friday, October 4, at Fox Ridge in Dike. The men were coming off a long four-day weekend just earlier in the week, so after a couple of days of needed rest, the team was geared and ready to go. A chilly and windy morning turned into a warm afternoon for a beautiful day for golf. Eighteen golfers for the men showed out for the tourney. The RedTails dominated the leaderboard, placing nine golfers in the top ten, three of whom tied for first place. Sophomores Kaeden Anderson and Mauricio Jimenez and freshman Jace Pruisner finished at four-over-par 76. Cardback tiebreakers made Anderson third, Pruisner second, and Jimenez the champion for his first collegiate win. Other Hawkeye names in the top ten included freshman Graham Bremner (77), Colton Sullivan (78), Kaden Kopsa (80), and sophomores Nash Arbuckle (78), Andrew Jones (79) and Bruno Marti Jimenez (79). The top four scores for the RedTails totaled out to 306, winning by 12 strokes. Coach Micah Destival shared his thoughts on the team's win.
"We didn't have our best team stuff today, and we were still able to pull off the win. It was very exciting to have Mauricio win his first college tournament. Course setup was difficult, and I thought we pulled it together to have a good finish."
On the women's side, freshman Natalie Sinnwell and sophomore Maggie Ward both competed, representing Hawkeye. Sinnwell fired a 105 while Ward carded a 102. Needing four to card a team score, the two girls just played as individuals. Sinnwell placed 19th with her score, and Ward in 17th with her score. Coach Destival shared his thoughts on the girls competing.
"Another solid day of improvement for our ladies. Maggie played solid and was able to lower her personal best by several strokes. Natalie, while not setting a career-best, also plays great over most of the holes, and both are showing growth this fall."
The men will be back in action on Oct 8-9 in Sioux City and the regional preview at Whispering Creek GC.
