Hawkeye Community College's men's soccer team faced a tough challenge on September 14, falling 4-0 to Heartland Community College in Normal, IL.
Heartland opened the scoring early, and quickly extended their lead with two more goals before halftime, leaving the RedTails down 3-0 at the break. Despite a solid effort from goalkeeper Dylan Lyle, who made 10 saves throughout the match, Hawkeye couldn't mount a comeback.
Reflecting on the game, Coach Christopher Rennie said, "Today we learned what things we need to add to our game if we want to compete with the top teams in the country. I think for many of our players, this was an opportunity to compare where we currently are as a team. They now know that we have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks to get to those levels. Today we were too nice, too quiet, and lost focus at key times—these areas are choices and must change if we want to compete."
The RedTails will take the lessons from this match as they look to grow and improve in their upcoming game at Northeast Community College on September 21st.
