RedTails Break School, Personal Records as They Head Into Regional and National Championship Season
HUMBOLT- The RedTail Men's Track and Field team was on the road Saturday, February 13 at the Waldorf Winter Invite. To say they had an impressive meet would be an understatement, breaking both school and personal records in various events.
Sam Mickelson had a notable 5K event where he punched his ticket to nationals, breaking the school record time at 15:28.10 which currently ranks him 10th nationally!
The greatness didn't stop there though. In the men's 60-meter dash both Jojo Frost and Ray Talbert broke school records, with Frost coming in at third with a time of 6.94 and Talbert in fourth just one second behind Frost at 6.95. Blake Osborn also made the final with an impressive 7.07.
In the men's 200, Connor Belken finished second. Korbin Seth and Nathan Elliott didn't trail too far behind finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Jacob Jensen ran a strong race in getting second overall with a time of 52.93. In the 800 Edgar Tapia had a remarkable finish coming in at third and with a PR in the books. Koby Brackemeyr made his debut in the mile finishing fourth with a time of 4:47:29.
Thrower Blake Veenstra put up some astonishing numbers too, hitting the national qualifier mark of 15.16 meters. He won the men's shot put while also finishing third overall in weight throw while receiving a new PR.
To finish off the meet the 4x4 with Frost, Belken, Brackemeyer, and Osborn cruised to first with a time of 3:26.06.
Coach Tyler Mulder was very impressed with the teams performance this past weekend especially Mickelson and Veenstra stating, "I am happy for both hitting their auto qualifiers in their events. We've seen these guys work hard for months so it's nice to be rewarded with PR's as we head into the regional and national championship season."
The RedTails next compete in the Region XI Indoor Championship held at the University of Central Missouri on Saturday, February 20.
