RedTails Take On Last Indoor Meet at NJCAA Indoor Championships
The RedTails were on the road Friday, March 5, at Pittsburg State University. The team overall had an impressive meet, making All American Honors in the distance medley relay while also having individuals make All American.
The distance medley relay (Harry Vanderlinden, Blake Osborn, Koby Brackemeyer, and Sam Mickelson) took eighth place overall with a time of ten minutes and 30.51 seconds to take All American Honors.
Mickelson had a successful meet. He won his heat in the mile and made a new school record at 4:21.95. This was his second time taking the podium for the meet.
Mickelson didn't stop there and made the podium a third time in the 3k with a time of 8:38.6. Vanderlinden took 17th in the 3k at 9:21.80.
In the shot put Blake Veenstra threw a 14.75m to finish 12th overall, just outside of the top 9 that made it to the finals.
For the 4x400 meter relay Jacob Jensen, Osborn, Connor Belken, and Jojo Frost finished 12th in the NJCAA with a 3:17.98. Coach Tyler Mulder said, "The guys wanted more but they gave everything they had with some nagging injuries from the tight tracks of indoors. They look to rest up and gear up for a big outdoor season."
Coach Mulder is looking forward to the men's outdoor season saying, "Overall I was happy for the guys to get this opportunity and see how talented and deep the national field is. I think they all are walking away knowing there's more in the tank which will help fuel the outdoor season. Their best times are in front of them which is exciting!"
The RedTails will finally welcome their outdoor season on Friday, March 26, at Jim Duncan invite in Des Moines, Iowa.
