RedTail Men’s Track and Field Continues to Dominate at Cornell College Invitational
MOUNT VERNON-The RedTail Men's Track and Field team pieced together an outstanding showing at the Cornell College Invitational on Saturday, April 3.
The RedTails' hard work showed throughout the course of the meet, as many of the men had personal bests in their respective events. In the 100-meter dash, sprinters Ray Talbert, Nathan Elliott, Korbin Seth and Ren Kajtezovic all set personal best times. Talbert highlighted the group, taking first place in a time of 11.00, just .01 seconds off of the school record.
The RedTails swept the 400-meter dash, as Conner Belken, Blake Osborn, and Jacob Jensen finished first through third. Belken led the RedTails in a strong 400-meter dash field, finishing first in 48.93 seconds, which ranks second all-time in program history. Osborn finished second, clocking 49.25 seconds for a time, which moved him to third all-time in program history.
Koby Brackemeyer took home gold in the 800-meter dash, and Sam Mickelson finished first in the 5000-meter run.
Blake Veenstra capped off the RedTail domination, finishing first in both the shotput and discus, and second in the hammer throw. Veenstra's efforts also qualified him for nationals in the shotput and discus.
"Overall we had a solid day of track and field and couldn't have had a more beautiful day for it," said head coach Tyler Mulder. "Blake had one of the most outstanding meets with his victories in the throws events! Coach Williams is doing a fantastic job with the throws crew!"
The RedTails will look to build on their outstanding efforts on April 9 when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa, to participate in the Grandview Invite.
