RedTails Continue Outdoor Season In Adverse Weather Conditions
The RedTail Men's Track and Field Team was back in action Friday March, April 9, at the Grandview Invite. Despite chilly weather conditions, the team worked together as they continued to find their momentum for the outdoor season.
The men's sprints had an exceptional performance as Blake Osborn closed the 200-meter dash in first place with a time of 21.78. Ray Talbert put together a strong 100 and 200, setting the school's record in the 100 with a time of 10.86 finishing in fourth place and fifth in the 200 at 22.31. Connor Belken dominated the 400 meter dash, finishing in first at 48.55. Coach Tyler Mulder said, "It's so nice to see him back to full strength after suffering a groin injury from the indoor season."
Jojo Frost made his debut in the 400-meter hurdles as he finished in first and saw a personal record with a time of 55.06. Jojo punched his ticket to nationals in the event.
Koby Brackemeyer ran a good race for the 800-meter dash at 1:56.92 putting him in second place.
Sam Mickelson ran a school record in his first ever 3000-meter steeplechase. Coming in first at 10:02.44, where he was just two seconds shy of hitting the auto standard. Coach Tyler Mulder says, "with some more hurdle work he could really blossom in that event."
The RedTails will continue their perseverance at their next meet in Cedar Rapids at the Mustang Open, Saturday, April 17.
