RedTails Cross Country Compete at Seminole Valley Stampede Meet

The Hawkeye RedTail men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Cedar Rapids on Saturday, October 5, to compete in the Seminole Valley Stampede Meet. Due to the lack of rain last month, the course was in good shape, so it was hard and ready for the runners to compete.

In the men's 8K race, the team was led by Brennen Sager, who finished with a time of 28:36.5, placing 133rd overall in the collegiate male division. He maintained a solid 5:45 minutes per mile throughout the race.

Following Sager, Travis Brace crossed the finish line with a time of 41:07, placing 212 with a pace of 8:16 minutes per mile. Sam Brace was unable to compete due to a hip injury.

On the women's side, Roselle Wardell could not compete due to a foot injury. Darcee O'Loughlin stepped in and ran for the women's team.

Following the meet, coach Scott Roberts commented, "The men's race went pretty well, although we only had a couple of guys running. Sam had to sit out due to a hip injury, but both Travis and Brennan competed. Brennan ran a personal best on this course, finishing strong. I was encouraged by the way he ran a smart race, being conservative at the start and improving as the race continued. We only had one competitor for the women's team as Roselle Wardell couldn't compete due to a foot injury she sustained. Darcee O'Loughlin is a real trooper. She is primarily a thrower and volleyball player, but has really stepped up for our team and ran hard. I'm really happy with the way she finished the race."

The RedTails will be back in action on Friday, October 11, at the Indian Hills Invitational in Ottumwa.
