RedTail Sports Shooting Claims 6 National Championships

MARENGO, OHIO–The sports shooting team competed at the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Collegiate Nationals on October 5-11, bringing home six national championships.
The RedTails competed in six competitions; 5-stand, International Skeet, International Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Trap Singles, winning the Division IV championship for each. The 5-stand team shot a total of 340, setting a new school record. Jake Maakestad was the top shooter, scoring a total of 90 birds, setting a new school record. The International Skeet team shot a total of 286. Alexis Teribury was the top scorer, shooting a total of 64 birds, setting a new school record and also earning her first overall for females. The RedTails set a new school record for International Trap shooting a total of 410 birds. Maakestad was once again the top shooter, setting a new school record by shooting 77 birds.
In the Skeet category, the RedTails set another school record by shooting a total of 942 birds. Maakestad was the top shooter for the RedTails, breaking the school record by shooting 192. Elizabeth Eisenbarth was right behind Maakestad shooting 190 and also breaking the school record for females. Another school record was broken by the Sporting Clay team shooting a total of 931 birds. Maakestad broke another school record, shooting 191. The Trap-Shooting team shot a total of 976 birds, breaking the school record. Maakestad shot 198, breaking another school record.
"We made history at the SCTP Collegiate National Championships," says coach Troy Emery. "This is the best nationals' team we have ever put on the shooting sports field! Jake keeps cementing his legacy as the best shooting sports student-athlete ever at Hawkeye RedTails Sports Shooting! These RedTails have the potential to be the best team we have ever had at Hawkeye Community College. We look forward to our next opportunity to compete at Northeast Iowa CC."
Next the RedTails will face Northeast Iowa Community College on October 9.
