Barron Joins RedTail Softball

RedTail Softball head coach Courtney Calkins announces the signing of Ceyaira Barron to the 2024-2025 recruiting class. Barron is the daughter of Chantel and Russell Barron and attends Davenport Central High School in Davenport, Iowa. Barron plans on studying business during her time at Hawkeye.

“Ceyaira is going to be a great addition to our program. She is a hard-working student-athlete who loves the game of softball,” commented Coach Calkins. “She is always striving to be better and is one who is always trying to improve in every aspect on the field.”

A catcher and shortstop, during her junior year at Central, she put together a .216 batting average with a .327 on base percentage. She collected 21 hits, including one double and three homeruns. She always walked 12 times, scored 15 times, and hit in 17 of her teammates. She also swiped seven bases. Behind the plate, she threw out 14 base runners.

For her efforts, she has been named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. She is also involved in track and field and chorus.

As to why she chose hawkeye, Barron had this to say: “I’m excited to come to Hawkeye because I’ve always dreamt of continuing playing softball in college. I’ve played this sport my whole life, and I don’t want to give up playing so soon.”

“Behind the plate, Ceyaira is calm and in control of the field and knows how to be a leader. She also has so much potential in the batter’s box to be a tough out for other teams. She is going to add a good dynamic to our roster next year, and I can’t wait to see all she can accomplish!” said Coach Calkins.
