RedTail Softball Competes at the Spring Games

The Hawkeye RedTail Softball Team headed to Clermont, Florida to compete in The Spring Games. The RedTails started the trip losing two games on Wednesday, March 13th. The losses came from Illinois Central College, losing 11-3 in six innings, and from South Suburban College, losing 12-2 in five innings.

 

Game 1: 3 (HCC), 11 (ICC)

Hawkeye struck first in the game, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Kisha Reed lead off the inning with a single, quickly stealing second, and scoring from a Lizzy Hamand single.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth, when Illinois Central scored two runs on four singles, giving the Cougars a 2-1 lead.

The RedTails quickly bounced back in the bottom of the fourth with a lead-off walk from Reed and a homerun hit by Caydance Sharp to give the RedTails a 3-2 lead.

Illinois Central responded with a big sixth inning, scoring nine runs. Hawkeye was unable to bounce back from the deficit, resulting in an 11-3 loss for the RedTails.

The RedTails were lead by Reed at the plate, going 2-3 with two runs and one walk. Sharp also added one hit, one run scored, and two RBI's for the game. Lizzy Hamand was 3-3 at the plate, and Savannah Ringheden and Harley Gaudet each added a hit themselves. Sidney Schafer took the loss on the mound, giving up 11 hits, 11 runs, 8 earned.

 

Game 2: 2 (HCC), 12 (South Suburban)

The Bulldogs scored first, scoring two runs on a single and homerun.

South Suburban added two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the third inning, capitalizing on two hits, a RedTail error, and a walk.

The Bulldogs improved their lead, continuing their hitting streak in the bottom of the fourth inning and scoring eight more times.

Going into the top of the fifth, the RedTails showed some light despite being down 12-0. With two outs, Allison Beenken reached on a Bulldog error. Sharp then hit her second homerun of the day, making the score 12-2. The RedTails couldn't keep the momentum, giving the Bulldogs the win.

Sharp lead in the box, going 1-2 with a homerun, 2 RBI's, and one run scored. Reed was also 1-2 with one run scored. Madisen Theel took the loss, giving up 8 hits, 12 runs, 9 earned, 7 walks, and 1 strikeout.

 

The RedTails move to 2-6 on the season. The next games will be played on Thursday, March 14th in Clermont, Florida at 4:15 PM and 6:30 PM.
