RedTail Softball Suffers Two Losses

The Hawkeye RedTail Softball Team traveled to Iowa Falls to compete in a conference doubleheader against Ellsworth Community College on April 6th. The RedTails dropped both games losing game one 7-4 and game two 10-2 in five innings.

 

Game 1: 4 (HCC), 7 (ECC)

Kisha Reed started the game with a leadoff walk and quickly stole second, but the RedTails were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

In the bottom of the first, Ellsworth scored their first run of the game on two singles and a stolen base.

They added two more runs in the bottom of the second, getting on base by two hit by pitches, followed by a double.

Ellsworth continued their scoring streak in the bottom of the third, getting their lead to five runs by a RedTail error, two singles, and a fielder's choice.

The Panthers went up 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth, scoring from a RedTail error and a single.

The RedTails saw some life at the plate when they scored their first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning. Reed got on from a Panther error and scored from a triple hit by Caydance Sharp.

The top of the sixth gave the RedTails another chance to score. A walk from Dharma Woodruff and a walk from Kylie Collins put runners on first and second. Harley Gaudet then loaded the bases when she was hit by a pitch. A single from Sidney Schafer scored Woodruff, putting the RedTails down by just four runs. Savannah Ringheden then put the ball in play to score Collins. The score was now 6-3 in favor of the Panthers.

Ellsworth tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth, scoring from a single, a stolen base, and another single.

Down 7-3 in the top of the seventh, the RedTails put the pressure on the Panthers to make the plays. Sharp led off the inning with a double to center and stole third base. She then scored from a ball in play from Woodruff. Two singles gave the RedTails runners at first and second, but Ellsworth ended the threat. The RedTails lost the game 7-4.

Hawkeye was led by Sharp at the plate who was 2-4 with a double, triple, one run scored, and one run batted in. Chardonnay Hubert was 2-4 and Collins was 1-2 with one walk and one run scored. Schafer took the loss on the mound going six innings, giving up nine hits, five earned runs, and seven strikeouts.

 

Game 2: 2 (HCC), 10 (ECC) – 5 innings

The game started out quiet until the third inning when Hawkeye struck first. Courtney Hemsley led off the inning with a single and advanced to second from the bat of Reed. Hemsley moved to third off a ball in play by Sharp. Hamand then put the ball in play to force a Panther error to score Hemsley.

Ellsworth then went up 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring from four singles, one walk, one hit by pitch, and three RedTail errors.

The RedTails scored their last run of the game in the top of the fifth. Sharp hit a single, Hamand walked, and both advanced when Sharp stole third. Sharp then scored from an error by the Panthers.

Ellsworth completed their five inning win by scoring two runs from a single, RedTail error, a double, and a wild pitch, giving the Panthers a 10-2 win.

The RedTails were led by Sharp at the plate, going 1-3 with one run scored. Hemsley was 1-2 with one run scored. Woodruff took the loss on the mound, going 3.1 innings, giving up five hits, eight runs, zero earned, and two walks. Hemsley pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two hits, zero earned runs, one walk, and one strikeout.

 

The RedTails move to 4-20 on the season and 0-8 in conference. The RedTails are back in action on Monday, April 8th at Iowa Lakes Community College at 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
