RedTails Take One From Moberly Area

The Lady RedTail Softball Team travelled to Moberly, Missouri to face Moberly Area Community College in a double header. The RedTails lost the first game 14-5 and won the second game 12-7.
Game one: 14 (MACC), 5 (HCC); six innings
The Greyhounds started out hot and continued throughout the game. They scored in the first inning, putting them up 1-0 to start the game.
The RedTails fought back to tie up the game in the top of the third. Jordan Eads started the inning with a single, and Lucy Lebo hit a single, which was followed by a Greyhound error to score Eads. The RedTails then took the lead when Lizzy Hamand walked and Dharma Woodruff singled to load the bases. Lebo then scored on a passed ball. Mya Chamberlin followed with her own walk, but the RedTail threat was ended early. The RedTails took a brief 2-1 lead.
Moberly responded in the bottom of the third. They scored two runs to go ahead 3-2, and they added a big fourth inning, scoring five runs, giving them an 8-2 advantage.
The top of the fifth saw some fight for the RedTails. Hamand forced a Greyhound error and advanced to second on a Woodruff walk. Adelyn Sienknecht then walked herself to load the bases. Emilee Bergmann came in clutch with a bases clearing double, putting the RedTails within three runs.
The bottom of the sixth saw some more Greyhounds cross Homeplate, ending the game early, giving the RedTails a 14-5 loss.
Woodruff led at the plate, going 1-2 with one run scored and one walk. Eads and Lebo each had a hit, run scored, and walk. Bergmann added a hit with three runs batted in. On the mound, Chamberlin took the loss, going 3.2 innings, giving up four earned runs, seven hits, and five strikeouts. Sienknecht threw two innings, giving up zero earned runs and two strikeouts.
Game two: 12 (HCC), 7 (MACC)
The first two innings were quiet for both teams, until the RedTails broke open the game in the top of the third. Lebo started the inning by forcing a Greyhound error. She quickly stole second and scored on a Hamand single. Olivia Techam then singled herself, scoring Hamand, allowing the RedTails to take a 2-0 lead.
Moberly responded in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs, giving them a 3-2 advantage.
The Greyhounds scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
A big sixth inning helped the RedTails gain their lead back. Harley Gaudet started the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. She then scored off the bat of Delaney Eickert. Ceyaira Barron came in to pinch run for Eickert, and quickly made it to third off a Hailey Harbour single. Chamberlin then drew a walk to load the bases. Lebo got hit by a pitch to score Barron. Hamand followed with a hit by pitch to score Harbour. Woodruff hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Chamberlin. Techam drew a walk to load the bases, and Gaudet had a single to score Lebo. Eickert came back up to the plate to single again, scoring Hamand and Techam. The seven run inning gave Hawkeye a 9-5 lead.
The RedTails didn't lighten up in the top of the seventh, when Harbour started with a leadoff single. Chamberlin then walked, and Lebo laid down a sacrifice bunt and made it on base with a Greyhound error. Hamand then singled to score both Harbour and Chamberlin. Techam then put the ball in play to score Lebo, making the score 12-5 in favor of the RedTails.
The Greyhounds fought back in the bottom of the seventh, but were stopped short. Hawkeye pulled away with the 12-7 win.
At the plate, Hamand was 2-3 with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Hemsley, Harbour, and Eickert each added two hits of their own. On the mound, Chamberlin got the win, going two innings, giving up two earned runs and four strikeouts. Eads added four innings, giving up four earned runs, five hits, and one strikeout. Woodruff pitched an inning, giving up just one hit.
The RedTails move to 4-8 on the season. Hawkeye is back in action on Sunday, March 9th at State Fair Community College. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
